SALISBURY, Md. -- The fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will open up the postseason on Friday at 7 p.m. when the Captains face Kean in the semifinals of the Coastal Lacrosse Conference Tournament at Salisbury's Sea Gull Stadium.
Entering the playoffs as the No. 2 seed, Christopher Newport stands at 15-1 overall, including 4-1 against conference foes. Meanwhile, Kean is the No. 6 seed and secured a spot in the semifinals after knocking off Stockton in the first round of the league tournament on Tuesday. The Cougars currently sit at 11-7 overall.
Tickets for Friday's game can be purchased at the Sea Gull Stadium ticket booth. They are $7 for adults and $3 for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Fans under 5 will be admitted free of charge.Â

On the defensive end,
Zac Hanway pocketed 13 saves, including the 500th of his career. He also registered his 45th victory, moving past former standout Matt Hayden for the most in program history. Meanwhile,
Aidan FitzGerald and
Ryan Cammarata helped anchor the defense with two takeaways apiece, while
Warner Cabaniss controlled possession by winning 14 of his 15 faceoffs.
Overall this season, Cabaniss ranks eighth in the NCAA in faceoff percentage (.688), while
Brett Jackson is sixth with 12 man-up goals. As a team, Christopher Newport is third in clearing percentage (.907), seventh in shooting percentage (.357), and ninth in scoring offense (17.81 goals per game).Â
Kean earned its spot in the semifinals after knocking off third-seeded Stockton, 15-14, in the opening round on Tuesday. Against the Ospreys, Nick Thorne posted a career-high five goals, including his 100th career point. His final strike proved to be the game-winner as he landed the decisive blow with three minutes left in regulation after scoring the equalizer just 41 seconds earlier.
Along with Thorne, Connor Batjer had five points, including three assists, while Max Stevens won 11 faceoffs and collected eight ground balls. Kenny Yeager also forced three turnovers, and Devin Reppert made 12 saves while notching the victory.
Overall this season, Thorne and Batjer are tied for the team-lead with 66 points apiece. Meanwhile, Stevens has won exactly 50 percent of his 354 faceoff attempts, and Reppert has a .503 save percentage and 11.50 goals-against-average. Steven Thorne also boasts a team-high 29 takeaways to go along with 70 ground balls.
The winner of Friday's match-up will advance to the Coastal Lacrosse Conference Championship, which will be hosted by Salisbury on Sunday.
