MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Ahead of a mid-week trip to Pfeiffer University, the Christopher Newport baseball team moved up in both NCAA Division III national polls. The Captains (27-7) are now ranked in the top ten according to the
Collegiate Baseball ABCA Top 25, ranked No. 10 in the poll, and moved back up to No. 12 in the D3baseball.com national rankings. On Wednesday, Christopher Newport will face first pitch against the Falcons at 3:00 p.m.
The Captains have won 10 of the last 11 games to improve to 27-7 overall. The last time out, Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week
Dylan Weber tossed a complete game two-hit shutout against Virginia Wesleyan as Christopher Newport notched the sixth blanking of the season. The CNU pitching staff ranks second nationally in total shutouts while ranking 12th nationally in earned-run average (3.41).Â
On Wednesday, the Captains will take on a Pfeiffer squad that is 11-15 overall this season including a 6-0 loss at Christopher Newport earliert his season. The return trip to North Carolina will serve as just the second matchup ever against the Falcons.Â

Offensively, the Captains are currently led by freshman shortstop
Josh Reinhold, hitting .379 in 31 starts during his rookie campaign. Designated hitter
Scott Crosson is also hitting .377 at the top of the CNU lineup with 29 runs scored. Senior
Justin Bowers has a team-high 30 runs scored while classmate
Alec Reilly has a team-high 32 RBI on the season.Â
In the other dugout, Jake Brown leads the Pfeiffer offense with a .337 average and 20 runs scored. Cory Lackey and Zach Ferrell have a team-high 21 RBI while Lackey has scored a team-best 24 runs this year. On the mound, Thad Lewis leads the way with a 2-4 record and 3.50 ERA.Â
Following the Wednesday matinee, the Captains will return to action this Saturday against Mary Washington at 1:00 p.m. at Captains Park.Â
