NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University hosts NCAA Tournament action Friday and Saturday at the Freeman Center. The action begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon as fourth-Ranked St. Joseph (CT) plays ninth-ranked Wheaton (IL). Second-ranked Christopher Newport takes on 17th-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) starting at 7:30 p.m.
The winners of the Sectional games Friday will meet Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. for the right to advance to the National Semifinals next week in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
John Krikorian's squad is 26-3 and appearing in its seventh-straight NCAA Tournament. The Captains have won 11 straight games after taking two last weekend at Hampden-Sydney College. They will be meeting Mary Hardin-Baylor for the first time ever, and the Crusaders have a mark of 23-5. Wheaton has a record of 24-4, and the Thunder will take on a 29-1 St. Joseph squad in the opener Friday.
This is the 26th trip to the NCAA tournament for Christopher Newport in the 55-year history of the program. Following their two victories last weekend, the Captains are now 29-25 all-time in NCAA play, and the Captains are 10-3 all-time in NCAA games at the Freeman Center.
Tickets are available for the exciting NCAA action, with chair back seats priced at $15.00 and general admission at $10.00. Children under two will be admitted free. Tickets purchased for Friday will include both games. Tickets are on sale at the Freeman Center Ticket Office as well as online at the following link :
