Live Stats // Video Stream

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The second-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to continue its winning ways on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Captains host St. John Fisher in a non-conference tilt at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the midweek match-up, Christopher Newport sits at 4-0 overall, including 3-0 at home. Meanwhile, St. John Fisher is 0-1 after dropping a road decision at SUNY Cortland in its season opener on March 1.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

The Captains are coming off of a record-setting outburst against Catholic on Saturday while rolling to a 22-8 victory. During that battle, Brett Jackson landed 10 goals, which broke Andrew Cook's single-game record of nine set at No. 20 Stevenson on February 25. The sophomore sensation eventually finished with 11 total points, toppling the previous school standard of 10 set by All-American Dylan Rice and matched by Cook.

Rounding out his historic appearance, Jackson also landed three man-up goals against the Cardinals. That equaled the single-game record set by Ryan Merrell against Fontbonne on March 10, 2007 and tied by John Thompson against Coast Guard on March 13, 2015.

Along with Jackson's efforts, Coby Auslander collected seven assists, which matched the program record established by Thompson against FDU-Florham on March 11, 2013. The senior standout also poured in a pair of goals and finished with nine total points, equaling the sixth-highest total by a Captain.

With his performance on Saturday, Auslander also became just the sixth player in program history to eclipse 150 career points. Reaching that mark in only his 44th career game, he became the second-fastest Captain to accomplish that feat. Only Dylan Rice reached it quicker after he joined the exclusive club in his 41st collegiate appearance.

Meanwhile, on the defensive side, Christopher Newport caused 23 turnovers against Catholic. That tied the 10th-highest total in school history. On an individual level, Ryan Young had five takeaways, while Burke Widhelm and Brett Kropinski added three apiece.

So far this season, Young ranks eighth in the NCAA with a 4.00 takeaways-per-game average. Additionally, Auslander is fifth in assists-per-contest (4.00), while Jackson is sixth in goals-per-outing (5.75) and second in man-up tallies (6).

St. John Fisher entered 2023 ranked 14th in the USILA National Preseason Coaches Poll after advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament last year. Although the Cardinals fell out of the top-20 after their season-opening loss to SUNY Cortland last week, the squad still secured 37 points in the latest poll, making the squad the top program in the "Others Receiving Votes" category.

In the opener on March 1, St. John Fisher held an early lead entering the second quarter, but Cortland outscored the team, 11-3, over the final three frames to steal the 12-5 win. Brady Mason led the Cardinals with three goals, while Logan Grom went 8-for-15 on faceoffs and Ben Hammond added 13 saves.

Due to inclement weather, St. John Fisher's second game of the year against St. Lawrence was postponed on March 4.

Wednesday's battle will mark the first match-up between Christopher Newport and St. John Fisher in men's lacrosse. However, the two head coaches have met once before. When the Cardinals' Dave Dobbins was an assistant coach at Ohio State in 2011, the Buckeyes dropped a 14-11 decision at Virginia, which included Mikey Thompson in his first coaching role as a student assistant with the Cavaliers.

Following the midweek match-up, Christopher Newport will remain at home for the start of Coastal Lacrosse Conference action against Montclair State on Saturday at noon.
