Along with Jackson,
Andrew Cook and
Alex Brendes also chipped in with six points apiece, while
Coby Auslander added a hat-trick. Meanwhile, on the defensive side,
Ryan Young forced five turnovers, and
Zac Hanway pocketed 12 saves. That marked his fifth straight appearance with double-digit stops, marking the longest run of his career.
Continuing to rank high on the national charts in a variety of categories, Christopher Newport currently slots seventh in the country in clearing percentage (.898), 12th in scoring offense (17.36 goals per game), and 17th in man-up offense (.500). The squad has also remained dominant on faceoffs, slotting ninth in the NCAA in faceoff percentage (.700) and ground balls (421).
Warner Cabaniss has been the focal point at the dot, winning 72 percent of his 256 faceoffs. His 128 ground balls also rank second on the program's single-season charts, just seven shy of matching his own school record set last year. Meanwhile,
Ryan Young,
Brandon Young,
Campbell Pozin, and
Burke Widhelm all have at least 20 rollers apiece while helping clean the field on the back end.
Lynchburg enters Friday night after knocking off No. 6 Washington & Lee, 14-13, in overtime. Riley Mitchell collected seven points during that victory, including the game-winning dagger. Finn Schmidt and Spencer Vandenberg also added hat-tricks, while Tyler Hadley made 23 saves, establishing a new career-high.
Overall this season, the Hornets rank 13th in the NCAA in clearing percentage (.878), while Hadley ranks 25th in saves per game (14.89) and 28th in save percentage (.596). Offensively, Mitchell leads the team with 17 goals and 30 points, while Riley Hastings has 17 assists. Michael Kraus has taken the bulk of the faceoffs, winning 115 of his 212 battles.
Saturday's tilt will mark the eighth match-up between the two programs with Lynchburg holding a 4-3 edge in the series. Last year, Christopher Newport notched a 17-13 win during the Mustang Classic in Owings Mills, Maryland. Cook and
Drew Miller led the Captains with four points apiece, while Mitchell had six for the Hornets.
After this weekend, Christopher Newport will remain on the road when the squad continues Coastal Lacrosse Conference action at No. 4 Salisbury on April 8 at 1 p.m.
