Dylan Weber Named C2C Pitcher of the Week; Captains Host Pfeiffer Tuesday at 3:00 pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior starter Dylan Weber was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon after helping lead the Captains to a perfect 4-0 week as a tem. Weber took on North Carolina Wesleyan University, receiving votes in the D3baseball.com Top 25, and shut out the Battling Bishops through six innings of work to earn the win.

Weber improved to 4-1 on the season with a 3.79 ERA after the quality start, holding NC Wesleyan to just three hits and three walks over six scoreless frames. He struck out a pair of batters in the first, second, third, and sixth innings on route to punching out nine batters in the game while running his season total to 54. He currently ranks ninth nationally and leads the conference in strikeouts.

Weber now has 215 strikeouts for the Captains, passing Bryan Bierlein (2011-2014) on the all-time charts, taking over sixth place all-time at CNU. Picking up the win on the road, Weber helped CNU continue a stretch of six straight wins and 11 of the last 12.

He is the third CNU player to garner Pitcher of the Week recognition, joining Daniel Elliott (Feb 20) and Jackson Baird (March 13). That trio is joined by Scott Crosson (March 13) and Alec Reilly (March 20) as Player of the Week selections.

Christopher Newport will now shift it's focus to a pair of games this week as the Captains will host Pfeiffer on Tuesday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m. before traveling to the University of Lynchburg for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch against the 12th-ranked Hornets. After playing four or five games a week for the first six weeks of the season, Christopher Newport will now take a load off and face just two contests this week.

First up, CNU will take on a Pfeiffer Falcons squad that is 3-12 to start the year. It will end a four-game homestand and marks the first of five remaining games at Captains Park this regular season. Jake Brown leads the way for Pfeiffer, hitting .362 with 11 RBI and 13 runs scored. Cory Lackey is also hitting .344 with a team-high 17 runs scored.

On Wednesday, the Captains will return a trip to Lynchburg to take on the nationally-ranked Hornets. In the game's first matchup at Captains Park, CNU earned a 6-4 win on March 7. The Captains trailed, 4-0, in the game but rallied behind an outstanding game from Scott Crosson (4-4, 3 RBI) and a gutsy pitching performance by Jay Cassady (7.0 IP, 4 ER, 6 SO, 1 BB). Lynchburg has been led by senior Avery Neaves, who has delivered 27 RBI and scored 26 times while hitting .382 through the team's first 19 games.

CNU is coming off a three-game sweep of St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) this weekend and leads the nation in shutouts with four so far this season. The Captains have also recorded over 300 hits already this year, leading Division III with 303 total base knocks while ranking 30th overall in on-base percentage (.437).
