NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University enjoyed a big day at the plate Saturday, as the second-ranked Captains swept two games in the Cross Bay Bash at Captains Park. CNU opened the day with a 10-1 victory over Stockton, and returned later in the afternoon to beat Randolph-Macon, 10-2. The opener was halted after five innings, and the nightcap stopped in the sixth frame due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Keith Parr's squad is now 11-3 on the season and the Captains have won four straight games. CNU used an eight-run third inning to close out Stockton, and the Captains later scored seven times in the sixth inning to beat Randolph-Macon.Â
Junior
Brooke Greaver drove in five runs on the day, and crushed a three-run double and a solo home run in the opener. Greaver also ended he nightcap by reaching on an error that allowed the Captains 10th run to score
Sophomore pitchers
Jamie Martin and
Kate Alger picked up the victories. Martin is now 5-2 and Alger improved to 6-1.Â
The Captains return to action next Sunday, hosting Meredith in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Captains Park.
