Softball Breaks Out Big Bats in Saturday Doubleheader Sweep at Captains Park

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University enjoyed a big day at the plate Saturday, as the second-ranked Captains swept two games in the Cross Bay Bash at Captains Park. CNU opened the day with a 10-1 victory over Stockton, and returned later in the afternoon to beat Randolph-Macon, 10-2. The opener was halted after five innings, and the nightcap stopped in the sixth frame due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Junior Brooke Greaver drove in five runs on the day, and crushed a three-run double and a solo home run in the opener. Greaver also ended he nightcap by reaching on an error that allowed the Captains 10th run to score

Sophomore pitchers Jamie Martin and Kate Alger picked up the victories. Martin is now 5-2 and Alger improved to 6-1.

The Captains return to action next Sunday, hosting Meredith in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Captains Park.
