CNU Wednesday Press Conference
FORT WAYNE, IN. - For just the third time in the 55-year history of the Christopher Newport University men's basketball program, the Captains will play in the National Semifinals on Thursday. CNU, ranked second in the nation and the highest-ranked team remaining in the 64-team tournament, will play seventh-ranked Swarthmore (Pa.) at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
Both squads will carry 28-3 records into the battle.
John Krikorian's squad advanced to the Final Four following two home victories last weekend at the Freeman Center, and the Captains are riding a 13-game winning streak. It will be the third all-time meeting of the schools, with both previous battles coming in the NCAA Tournament. CNU won at Swarthmore, 77-67, in the 2017 tourney, but fell by a 70-63 score in the 2019 National Semifinal.
"It's great to be here and preparing to compete for a championship," Head Coach
John Krikorian said. "I think most of our guys remember last year and how we came up short in a loss at Marietta, so to advance to Fort Wayne is something special. Swarthmore is a fantastic program, and we know them well, so there won't be many surprises. We're going to have to play at a high level if we expect to advance."
