NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Captains of Christopher Newport University, ranked fourth in the country, host the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz Saturday. Tip-off time is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center.

The Captains are 19-3 and riding a four-game winning streak. John Krikorian's squad won on the road Wednesday night, defeating the Eagles of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg by a 67-53 final verdict. Fifth-year senior Brandon Edmond led the way for CNU by scoring a career-high 19 points, and tallied the first 12 points of the game for the Captains on four three-pointers. Junior big man Trey Barber registered 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Barber also blocked five shots and posted two steals. Sophomore guard Ty Henderson joined Edmond and Barber in double digits with 12 points, all in the second half, and made his last six foul shots to help put the game away.

The Banana Slugs enter play with a record of 8-11, and have dropped their last six games. UC Santa Cruz began its road trip on Thursday night, and fell at Salisbury by a score of 100-57. The Captains and Slugs have met three times in the past, all last season, and the Captains captured all three contests. CNU traveled to California last January and won on back-to-back nights, and then defeated UC Santa Cruz in the semi-finals of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at the Freeman Center last February.
