No. 3 CNU Women's Hoops Hosts Greensboro College at 2:00 pm on Sunday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Playing in the Freeman Center for the last time in 2023, the third-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team hosts Greensboro College (0-5) at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The Captains (6-0) will play as part of a tripleheader at home on Sunday as the top-ranked CNU men's program hosts the second day of the CNU/Holiday Inn Invitational.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com. Links can be found on the women's basketball schedule.

Christopher Newport is coming off a pair of wins at the Freeman Center last weekend, defeating East Texas Baptist University (52-45) and No. 18 Elizabethtown (81-68) to run their season-opening win streak to six. The Captains leaned on C2C Player of the Week Alivia Giles, who posted her first two career double-doubles in the two victories. Giles now leads the team in both scoring, with 10.8 points per game, and rebounding, with 8.7 boards per game.

Giles has now led the team in scoring in two of the first six games; four different CNU players have led the team in scoring so far this season. Camille Malagar is the only other player to lead the way twice, coming off a team-high 17 points against the nationally-ranked Blue Jays of Elizabethtown. Malagar is averaging just over 10 points per game while knocking down 42.6 percent of her shots.

From beyond the arc, the Captains are knocking down six triples per game and being led by sophomore sharpshooter McKenna Snively, with 12 makes so far this season. She is pouring in 8.5 points per game and is also one of the top defensive leaders with 11 steals.

CNU and Greensboro have matched up 85 times in the all-time series after decades playing in the same conference. Christopher Newport owns a 61-24 advantage in the series, including a five-game winning streak.

The Pride are playing under the direction of first-year head coach Laquanda Dawkins-Prince. Azuria Barrino leads the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game while also hauling in 5.0 rebounds per game. Samiah Mitchell has started all five games and leads the team with 30.0 minutes per contest.

Following the Sunday matinee, the Captains will hit the road for five weeks to play the next eight games. CNU will next face Haverford College on the road next Saturday, December 2 at 1:00 pm.
