FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --
The 7th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will continue its road swing this week when the Captains face Rhodes in a neutral-site tilt at Mary Washington's Battleground Turf Field on Sunday at noon before traveling to Susquehanna for a Tuesday showdown at 1 p.m. at SU's Sassafras Multipurpose Field.

CNU currently sits at 10-0 on the season, including 4-0 on the road. Meanwhile, Rhodes is 8-2 overall, while Susquehanna is 8-3.

For those fans unable to attend the games, Christopher Newport will provide live stats and a video stream of Sunday's action, while Susquehanna will have live stats for Tuesday's tilt. FloSports will also provide a pay-per-view broadcast of the game against Susquehanna. Links to all of those features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

For the second straight week, Christopher Newport was slotted seventh in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll. The top-nine teams in the rankings remained unchanged in the latest release, while several of CNU's opponents earned recognition. The Captains already have victories against No. 11 Kean, No. 23 Bryn Mawr, and No. 25 Swarthmore, while a battle with No. 6 Salisbury looms on the horizon on October 18.

Christopher Newport has had a lengthy layoff since a jam-packed three-game stretch last week. During their recent run, the Captains knocked off Virginia Wesleyan last Monday, No. 11 Kean on Saturday, and Roanoke on Sunday. For her work during that stretch, Chloe Thompson was celebrated as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the Synapse Sports National Honor Roll for the second time this season.

On the offensive side, Emily Evans and Delaney Norr posted four goals apiece during the last three games, while Abby Asuncion had a hand in five strikes, including her 13th career game-winning goal. That tied Christopher Newport Hall of Famer Caitlin Cahill for the most in program history.

Overall this season, CNU currently ranks sixth in scoring defense (0.60 goals-against-average) and seventh in scoring offense (4.50 goals-per-game). Additionally, Lily Kerr is fourth in the NCAA in save percentage with a stellar .875 mark, while Alexis Morales is 10th in assists-per-game with a 0.80 rate.

Rhodes enters the weekend after posting a 9-1 victory against Earlham last Sunday. Of the team's eight wins, seven have been by at least two goals and four have been by five or more. The squad's 4.41 scoring average is the 11th-highest in the NCAA, while Sophie Croci leads the team with 15 goals and 36 points. Defensively, Catherine Gluodenis sits among the top-50 nationally in goals-against-average (1.39) and save percentage (.789).

Susquehanna has already faced a pair of top-20 foes this year with a 1-0 win at No. 19 Franklin & Marshall and a 4-1 setback against York, who currently sits eighth in the latest rankings. As a team, the River Hawks stand 11th in the NCAA with five shutouts and 21st with 10 defensive saves. On an individual level, Ashley Derrick has a 1.14 goals-against-average, while Sophia Prata and Kari Schmidt have 13 points apiece.

CNU is 11-0 all-time against Rhodes and 1-1 in battles with Susquehanna. Last year, the Captains beat the River Hawks, 4-1, and the Lynx, 4-0, in back-to-back games in the middle of October. Asuncion had two goals and a pair of assists in those tilts, while 10 current Captains played in both contests, including Joelie Erwin, who saw a career-high 30 minutes of work in the win over Rhodes.

After Tuesday's game at Susquehanna, Christopher Newport will return to action on October 15 with another neutral-site test against Denison in Fredericksburg.
