Christopher Newport Volleyball Set for Doubleheader in Salisbury

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport Volleyball will play two matinee matches on Saturday in Salisbury, Maryland over the regular season's penultimate weekend.

Match Details

On Saturday, the Captains will face New York University at 1:30 p.m. before going up against Salisbury at 3:30 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on Salisbury's website.

Last Time Out

Sammy Carroll passed the 1,000 dig mark on Thursday night as the Captains took down William Peace in three sets. Sammy Carroll reached 1,000 digs in tonight's match. She is now only the second player in program history with 1,000 digs and 1,000 assists. The Captains totaled 11 blocks in the win with Macy Burk leading the way with six total blocks. CNU also held William Peace to just 12 kills along with a negative hitting percentage (-.139).

By The Numbers

5.51 - The final two weekends of the regular season will be important to determining CNU's seeding in the upcoming Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament. Teams will be seeded into the conference postseason tournament based on Massey Ratings.com standing the Monday prior to the championship. Currently, CNU is in second place with a 5.51 Massey rating with Mary Washington in first at 5.76, who the Captains will face next weekend. This weekend's opponent, Salisbury, is in third behind CNU at 5.17.

Series History

CNU is 2-0 against NYU with wins in 2009 and 2017. The Captains have a much longer history with Salisbury as the two teams will meet for the 45th time on Saturday. CNU has a 27-17 lead in the series but lost the most recent meeting back on October 14.

Scouting the Violets

NYU was ranked 10th in this week's AVCA poll and are riding a four-match winning streak coming into this weekend. They're set to face Stockton on Friday night ahead of this weekend's matches. They rank in the national top 10 with an average of 2.48 blocks per set and the 12th-best hitting percentage of .252.

Scouting the Sea Gulls

Salisbury has four straight wins coming into the weekend. They'll put their 8-1 home record on the line Saturday as they'll face both NYU and CNU. The Sea Gulls won both of the C2C weekly awards this week as Gwen Eustace and Grace Rail were the offensive and defensive players of the week.
