Colin Hart Selected Offensive Player of the Week Following Three Touchdown Performance

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Sophomore wide receiver Colin Hart was honored on Monday by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a huge day on Saturday vs. Kean University. The Ashburn, Va., native was named the Offensive Player of the Week.

Hart scored three times and compiled more than 200 yards in total offense as the Captains defeated the Cougars, 34-10, on Homecoming at Kelchner Field at TowneBank Stadium.  Hart started the scoring on just the second play from scrimmage of the day, racing 48 yards on a jet sweep for the opening score. He would later catch an 85-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Matt Dzierski with 4:31 left in the first half, and then reached the end zone for the third time on a 13-yard scoring reception from Dzierski with 5:45 left in the third quarter.

For the day, Hart caught seven passes for 184 yards and two scores, and his 48-yard scoring run gave him 232 yards of total offense. He is now averaging 87.7 yards per game receiving this year and has caught 32 total passes through the first seven games, including four for scores.Hart has now scored nine career touchdowns. 

Christopher Newport is now 5-2 overall and 3-0 atop the NJAC standings. The decisive victory was the eighth straight home win for the Captains, matching the all-time home winning streak set by CNU squads in the 2002-2003 and 2005-2006 seasons. 

Paul Crowley's squad heads back on the road this Saturday, traveling to Wayne, New Jersey, to take on the Pioneers of William Paterson University. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. WPU is 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC following a 14-13 home loss to Montclair State University on Saturday.
