Captains Return to Freeman Center this weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport Volleyball returns home from a long road trip to host three matches at the Freeman Center this weekend.

Match Details

The Captains hosts St. Lawrence on Friday night for a 6:00 p.m. match before hosting Salisbury at noon on Saturday and Warren Wilson at 4:00 p.m. Live stats will be available for all three matches.

Last Time Out

Christopher Newport won all three matches in Santa Cruz last weekend, including two over UC Santa Cruz. In the third win on Sunday, the Captains came back from a two set deficit to win the final three sets and win their 11th match in a row. The win was the 11th in a row for Christopher Newport and their longest winning streak since they won 14 straight in 2019.

By The Numbers

6 - Sammy Carroll posted a double double in the stat sheet for the sixth time this season last Sunday. She's been in double figures in assists in every game this season, and has added double-digit digs five times, including in Sunday's win over UC Santa Cruz.

Series History

This is the first matches between CNU and both St. Lawrence and Warren Wilson. The Captains are 27-16 all-time against Salisbury after a season split a year ago. CNU won the last match against Salisbury in the Freeman Center, but the Sea Gulls won the second meeting in Salisbury a few weeks later.

Scouting the Saints

St. Lawrence is 4-11 this season and have lost five straight coming into Friday's match. The Saints are 1-4 away from home as they will be this weekend. They're led by Vivian Zymeck who averages 3.24 kills per set.

Scouting the Sea Gulls

Salisbury is 11-6 this year but are just 1-3 on the road. The Sea Gulls fell to Virginia Wesleyan last Saturday to snap a four-match winning streak. Gwen Eustace has been strong at the net this season as she ranks 15th nationally with 76 blocks.

Scouting the Owls

Warren Wilson is 1-15 in their inaugural season. Vera Pandolfo has been one of their better players this season with 263 assists and 12 solo blocks.
