NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
A top 10 showdown awaits the Captains of Christopher Newport University Wednesday night in Ashland, Va. The fifth-ranked CNU squad will take on the second-ranked Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon at Crenshaw Gymnasium. Tip-off time is set for 8:00 p.m.

John Krikorian's team has won six straight games, moving up to fifth in the national rankings this week after consecutive polls in the seventh slot. R-MC has won 11 consecutive games and the Jackets are 13-1. Josh Merkel's team won the National Championship last season, losing only once all season to the Captains in overtime at the Freeman Center in late November.

Both squads survived tough tests on Saturday and both came away with three-point triumphs. The Captains won at York College (Pa.) in overtime, 75-72, and Randolph-Macon downed 21st-ranked Guilford College, 59-56, in Ashland.

A limited number of tickets remain for the game, and can be purchased by clicking HERE.

The battle of Top 10 programs will be the 31st all-time meeting of the schools. R-MC holds a 19-11 lead in the series, but the Captains have won eight of the last nine games played, including last year's 77-76 overtime win. The first nine games in the series played from 1977-1985 came when the Yellow Jackets were playing at the Division II level, and Randolph-Macon won all nine. Since R-MC joined Division III, the Captains hold an 11-10 edge in the series.

All Captains games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM). The pre-game show will begin at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday evening.
