Volleyball Travels to Susquehanna Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport Volleyball travels to Pennsylvania this weekend for three matches as part of the Susquehanna Invitational.

Match Details

The Captains will kick off their weekend at 5:00pm with a match against Ithaca. They'll turn around on Saturday and face Johns Hopkins at 1:00pm followed by Susquehanna at 3:00pm. All matches will be streamed live on the Landmark Digital Network. 

Last Time Out

Christopher Newport withstood a comeback to top Washington & Lee in five sets on Thursday night. CNU set a new season-high of 15.5 blocks in the match while Macy Burk's 9 blocks and Alyssa Dozier's 8 blocks were both career highs. Sammy Carroll assisted on a season-high 49 kills while Mackenzie Wright (16), Burk (14), and Dozier (10) all finished with double-digit kills.

By The Numbers

103 Mackenzie Wright eclipsed 100 kills in Thursday's win over Washington & Lee. The fifth year now has over 100 kills in all four seasons with the Captains, averaging over two kills per set in her CNU career.

Series History

The Captains lost their first and only matchup with Ithaca in 2021. They also fell to Johns Hopkins last season, moving their all-time record against to Blue Jays to 2-3. CNU has hosted Susquehanna four times and won all four matches. They'll travel to face the River Hawks for the first time after a five-set win last season.

Scouting the Bombers

Ithaca enters the weekend 3-3 on the season. They went 2-1 in their own Bomber Invitational and finished 1-2 in Juniata's Asics Invitational last weekend. Alexandra Montgomery has led the Bomber attack lately, with 28 kills in the last three matches.

Scouting the Blue Jays

Johns Hopkins opened the season with three straight wins in their own Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament, but then lost three straight matches to top 15 ranked teams at the East West Challenge in Atlanta. The Blue Jays enter the weekend ranked #14 in the latest AVCA poll. Simone Adam averages 4.1 kills per set, ranking 20th in the country.

Scouting the Riverhawks

Susquehanna comes into their tournament with a 5-2 record. They swept the River Hawk Classic to open the year and split their next four matches. Rosina Esposito leads their attacking corps with 3.97 kills per set.
