NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport baseball team will return to action on Tuesday, April 19 as the Captains play host to Washington and Lee University at Captains Park with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Returning to Captains Park with just three home games left in the regular season, the Captains take on the Generals for just the 13th time in the all-time series. The two teams have split the first 12 with Christopher Newport taking the three of the last four including 2020's 10-4 win at Captains Park. Prior to 2020, though, CNU and W&L had not faced off since 1987.
Christopher Newport is now 21-10 overall including an 11-5 mark at home. Washington and Lee enters the matchup with a 14-13 record after winning four straight. The Captains dropped a pair to No. 10 Salisbury in their last matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Justin Bowers, hitting .370 with 25 extra-base hits including 12 home runs. Bowers has driven in 35 runs and scored a team-high 33 times while hitting in the middle of the CNU lineup. Hitting behind him,
Daniel Elliott is averaging a team-high .385 with 35 hits in 91 at-bats this season. He has more walks than strikeouts this season, with 14 free passes and just 10 strikeouts.
Five CNU starters are hitting over .300 this season including leadoff man
Conner Clark, who moved into a tie with Jordan Mason for the all-time hits lead in Captains history. Clark is on a tear, ripping nine hits in the last four games to raise his average to .321. The all-time leader in stolen bases is also pacing the Captains on the basepaths again this year, with a perfect 15-for-15 mark.
Washington and Lee is led by Ethan Zulueta hitting .347 with 17 RBI this season. As a team, the Generals are hitting .303 with Brian Wickman (.346) and Luke Erdmann (.345) also pacing the attack. On the mound, reliever Evan Blair (3-3) has a team-best 1.67 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched.
After Tuesday afternoon's matchup against the General, the Captains will return to Captains Park on Saturday, April 23 for a twin bill against Mary Washington to close out the regular season home schedule.
