NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport baseball is back in action on Thursday afternoon after seeing Wednesday's road trip to Bridgewater postponed. The Captains (10-4) are set to host Randolph-Macon College (8-2) at 2:00 pm at Captains Park.

John Harvell announced several schedule changes to the 2022 baseball slate with Wednesday evening's matchup at Bridgewater now slated to be played on April 14 at 4:00 pm. CNU also picked up a game against Methodist on April 6 at 3:00 pm. This weekend, the Captains are scheduled to face Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday and Sunday -- stay tuned to CNUsports.com for updates to the schedule pending poor weather.Â
Thursday's contest against the Yellow Jackets for the 58th time in the all-time series with the series nearly knotted up at 29-28 in favor of R-MC. The Captains have played Randolph-Macon in all but one season since 2005, including twice in postseason play.Â
Christopher Newport has won ten of the last 11 games and has improved to 10-4 overall. The Captains feature the three top ERA's in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference with
Dylan Weber leading the way with a 1.10 mark over his first 16.1 innings pitched.
Daniel Elliott, in seven appearances this season, is right behind with a 1.15 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 15.2 innings out of the pen, and
Jay Cassady has a 1.48 ERA with a 45/4 K/BB ratio over his first 24.1 innings pitched.Â
Offensively, Elliott is on top of the team average list, hitting .433 with 13 hits in 30 at-bats.
Scott Crosson and
Justin Bowers have also delivered plus .400 marks in the first 14 games of the year with Crosson leading the team in RBI while hitting .426. Bowers has 12 extra-base hits and is hitting .410 in the middle of the Captains lineup including seven doubles and three home runs.Â
Randolph-Macon will counter having won four straight and eight of their first ten games. Sophomore Hunter Cole has been dominant at the plate, hitting .469 with 13 RBI and eight extra-base knocks. Myles Webb and Carter Johnson are hitting .391 to help bolster a team .322 average. On the mound, Hayden Snelsire (2-0) has a 1.69 ERA with 17 K's in 16.0 innings pitched.Â
