FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After helping the fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team extend its winning streak to 11 straight games, Dylan Rice and Burke Widhelm were celebrated for their individual efforts as the two standouts swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards.

Widhelm was honored as the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. Meanwhile, the offensive award marked the fourth of Rice's decorated tenure. He was previously celebrated on April 30, 2018, May 3, 2021, and February 14, 2022.

On the back end, Widhelm pieced together a remarkable run while suffocating the opposition with relentless pressure. Kicking off his award-winning week, the senior posted a career-high six takeaways during a 13-8 triumph over Washington & Lee. His six caused turnovers equaled the seventh-highest total in program history.

Returning to the field on Sunday, Widhelm showcased his skills on both ends of the turf. On the defensive side, he came back with two more takeaways and three ground balls. Meanwhile, on the offensive end, he chipped in with his first collegiate point after assisting on a goal on a fastbreak in the third quarter during the team's 21-6 win against Whittier.

So far this season, Widhelm ranks third in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference with 20 caused turnovers, while his 32 ground balls place him eighth among league competitors.

On the offensive side, Rice anchored Christopher Newport's attack while posting seven goals and seven assists during his two appearances. His finest performance came on Sunday when he erupted for 10 points, including a career-high six assists. His 10 points equaled the single-game school record which he originally established against St. Mary's (Md.) on May 1, 2021 before matching it in a win over Roanoke on February 12, 2022.

Along with his historic showcase against Whittier, Rice also contributed four points, including a hat-trick, during Wednesday's win over Washington & Lee. He scored three first-half goals as the Captains built an early advantage before assisting on the squad's final dagger in the fourth quarter to ice the victory.

With his performance during the week, Rice now leads the league with 66 points and slots second with 43 goals. On Sunday, he also became just the fifth active player in the NCAA to collect 300 career points after reaching the milestone with his final goal against Whittier.

Rice, Widhelm, and the rest of the Captains will return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when Christopher Newport hosts No. 16 Williams in a top-20 showdown at Jennings Family Stadium.
