Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 40 CNU Men's Tennis Falls, 8-1, at No. 12 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. -- In a battle between nationally-ranked opponents, the No. 40 Christopher Newport men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 setback at No. 12 Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon. Alec Strause picked up a big win over a regionally-ranked opponent at No. 2 singles for the Captains.

The challenging 2022 schedule continues for the Captains, as they appeared in their sixth match against a team currently ranked in the ITA National Rankings. Christopher Newport is now 7-5 on the season while the Blue Jays improved to 7-0.

Hopkins swept the doubles point despite hard-fought battles across the board for Christopher Newport. James and Thomas Yu edged out CNU's top-line tandem of Ryan Macy and Strause, 8-5, and Daniel Ardila paired with Rohan Reddy for a narrow 8-6 win against Paul Baron and Mason Kolls at No. 2.

Shifting into singles play, Hopkins clinched the match with wins at 1 and 4, but the Captains fought hard throughout the remainder of the individual matches. The win for Strause, ranked No. 19 in the regional rankings, came ove Reddy, pegged No. 10 in the same region. The CNU junior won the first set with ease, 6-3, and held off a comeback bid in the second set to capture the win 7-6 (5).

At No. 3, Eddy Porsmyr Hansen secured a second-set victory, 6-4, but was unable to complete the come-from-behind win with a 10-3 loss in the third. At No. 6, Matthew Dubuque forced a first-set breaker, but finished out his match against Brian Wang down 7-6 (3), 6-1.

Christopher Newport will need a short memory as they stay on the road for another test on Sunday. The Captains will travel to No. 29 Swarthmore with live stats and live video available at CNUsports.com. Match time is set for 11:00 am
