VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Head coach
John Harvell announced a postponement of Sunday's matchup at Virginia Wesleyan University. Game date and time for the makeup game has yet to be announced.
The Captains pitching staff is leading the nation in strikeouts per nine innings with 13.4 K/9 so far this season. Limiting free passes has also helped keep opposing scoring down as the staff ranks 12th in strikeout-to-walk ratio and 13th overall in earned-run average (3.30). Reliever
Daniel Elliott has led the way ranking eighth nationally with 15.61 K/9 out of the pen while starter
Jay Cassady is ranked in the top-25 nationally as well with 14.59 K/9.
While Elliott has been an asset out of the bullpen, he is also currently leading the team in hitting with a .415 average over 53 at-bats. He has 14 RBI and 13 runs scored with five doubles in the middle of the CNU lineup.
Justin Bowers is hitting .414 with 17 extra-base hits to supply the bulk of the Captains power, driving in a team-high 21 runs while scoring a team-best 22 times. Bowers ranks 12th nationally in slugging percentage and in the top-20 in total home runs, with six.
The Captains will continue a five-game road trip with a game at Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday, March 30 at 3:00 pm.
