Christopher Newport Volleyball Set for Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport Volleyball begin their conference title defense on Friday afternoon when they line up as the No. 3 seed in the Coast-to-Coast Conference tournament against No. 6 seeded Pratt.

Match Details

The Captains take on Pratt in Fredericksburg at 1:30pm on Friday afternoon. The winner of the match will face No. 2 Mary Washington at 6:30pm. All the weekend's matches will stream live on the UMW Website.

Last Time Out

Christopher Newport won their sixth and seventh straight matches on the final day of the regular season, both in three sets. The Captains topped York and Averett on Saturday to finish the season with a record of 20-11. CNU now has 11 three-set wins in the 2022 season.

The Coast-to-Coast Conference announced their All-Conference selections on Thursday and named Sammy Carroll and Mackenzie Wright to the first-team and Maddie Carter to the second-team. Alyssa Dozier was also named the 2022 Rookie of the Year.

Alyssa Dozier is the eighth player in CNU history to be named a conference rookie of the year. Before Dozier, Sammy Carroll was the last Captain named rookie of the year in 2019.

Christopher Newport has never played Pratt Institute in volleyball.

Scouting the Cannoneers

Pratt finished the regular season with a 11-10 record and a 0-3 record in neutral site contests. The Cannoneers boast the C2C's three best servers with Emily Sontag, Deanna Colondona, and Rose Moon ranking 1-2-3 in aces per set. As a team, Pratt averages 3.15 aces per set which has them ranked 16th in the nation.
