NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University returns to action Saturday as the Holiday Inn Invitational gets underway at the Freeman Center. CNU, 5-0 on the season and ranked fourth in the nation, will host Sarah Lawrence College Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Eastern University will take on North Carolina Wesleyan University in the opening game of the tourney Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

The Captains improved to 5-0 on Tuesday night with a home victory over Methodist University at the Freeman Center, 82-59. Christopher Newport will be looking for its 1,000th all-time victory in the 55-year history of the program. The meeting with Sarah Lawrence will be the first ever for CNU, and the Gryphons are 1-3 to start the season and have dropped three straight games. Sarah Lawrence is located in Bronxville, N.Y., and is a member of the Skyline Conference.

Eastern University is a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference and is located in St. Davids, Pa. The Eagles are 6-0 heading into the two-day tournament. North Carolina Wesleyan University is located in Rocky Mount and is part of the USA South Athletic Conference. The Battling Bishops are 2-2 so far in the 2022-2023 season. 

Saturday's winners will play on Sunday in the Championship game at 4:00 p.m. The third-place game will start at 12 noon on Sunday at the Freeman Center.
