Christopher Newport Downs SUNY Morrisville to Advance in Regional

Christopher Newport won three straight sets on Thursday afternoon to take down SUNY Morrisville in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

First Set (Morrisville 25-21)

Morrisville took seven of nine points and turned a two point lead into a six point lead in the middle of the first set. Mackenzie Wright totaled five kills in the first set, but it wasn't enough to keep the Mustangs from taking the first set.

Second Set (Captains 25-16)

Alyssa Dozier and Maddie Carter each contributed two kills to a 7-2 Christopher Newport run. The two totaled ten of the Captains' 15 kills in the second set and helped turn the tide of the match. Down the stretch, CNU claimed five of the final six points to win the set and even the match score.

Third Set (Captains 25-12)

Leading 8-6, the Captains captured 13 straight points to effectively put away Morrisville early in the third set. Three aces from Noelle Starr were part of the long CNU run, and kills from Kyla McIntyre, Alyssa Dozier, and Maddie Carter delivered the final blows in a third set win.

Fourth Set (Captains 25-16)

The Captains expanded their lead from two points to ten after a 10-2 run in the fourth set. Three kills from Wright and three CNU aces helped the Captains extend their lead over Morrisville. Back-to-back kills from Dozier were eventually followed by Maddie Carter's kill that won the match for Christopher Newport.
