CNU Volleyball Hosts Three Matches This Weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport is set for three home matches this weekend at the Freeman Center. CNU will play Eastern Mennonite on Friday night before hosting Messiah and Randolph-Macon on Saturday in a Tri-Match.

Match Details

The Captains square off with EMU on Friday at 6:00pm. On Saturday, CNU faces Messiah at 11:00am before Messiah turns around to play Randolph-Macon at 1:00pm. CNU and Randolph-Macon play the final match of the day at 3:00pm

Last Time Out

CNU cruised to a three-set win over Lynchburg on Wednesday night at the Freeman Center. The Captains totaled double-digit kills in every set with Maddie Carter leading the way with 11. Alyssa Dozier led the team in blocks (3), service aces (4), and was second in kills (9).

Christopher Newport held Lynchburg to a .056 hitting percentage on Wednesday night. It's the third-lowest percentage for a CNU opponent this season as only Lewis & Clark (-.038) and Hollins (-.068) hitting worse against the Captains.

Series History

The Captains are 4-5 all time against Eastern Mennonite, but have won the last three matches, including a 3-0 sweep last season. CNU has also won three straight against Messiah and holds a 3-3 overall record against the Falcons. Conversely, Randolph-Macon has defeated CNU in their last three meetings, but the Captains still hold an overall advantage at 18-10.

Scouting the Royals

Eastern Mennonite is 7-11 coming into Friday's match and losers of four straight. Friday will be their fourth road game in a row for a team that's 2-5 away from home. The Royals have been solid in their serves this season, averaging 2.62 aces per set.

Scouting the Falcons

Messiah holds an impressive 18-6 record and is riding a four match winning streak into Saturday's match. Mackenzie Feight has been the Falcons' top attacker, ranking in the national top 25 with 3.91 kills per set. 

Scouting the Yellow Jackets

Randolph-Macon is 16-4 this season and currently 4-2 in the month of October. Grace Parker has been the standout for the Yellow Jackets as she currently leads the nation with 5.16 kills per set and 5.76 points per set.
