Christopher Newport is ranked tenth in the nation this week, and the Captains have won ten straight games heading into Saturday's matinee. CNU defeated Widener University on Sunday at the Freeman Center, 85-47, to improve to 13-2 on the season and 10-0 at home this year. The Captains haven't been defeated since a November 21st loss at Lynchburg.
The Captains have moved up to the tenth spot in the country this week, and have defeated two teams in the Top 25 ranking this year. CNU has handed top-ranked Randolph-Macon (10-1) and 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins (7-1) their only losses so far this season. This is the highest ranking for the Captains since the pre-season poll heading into the 2019-20 campaign when CNU was in the ninth spot.
Marymount University has a 7-4 record so far this season, and the Saints are presently on a three-game winning streak. MU last played on December 21st, winning its conference opener at Centenary (N.J.), 107-86. The Saints are 4-1 this season at home in Converse Family Fieldhouse.
CNU and Marymount will be meeting for the 27th time, and the schools are former rivals from the Capital Athletic Conference. The Captains have won 22 of the previous 26 games, and the series dates back to 1987.
All Captains games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning Saturday at 2:40 p.m.
