RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior
Darian Peterson posted a career-high 23 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Christopher Newport University over William Peace University, 91-69, at Hermann Athletic Center Wednesday night. Peterson was one of four Captains to reach double figures, recording his second double-double of the season as the Captains registered their 15th straight victory.

Jason Aigner knocked down six of 11 from long range to finish with 20 points. Sophomores

Jahn Hines (17) also reached double digits as
John Krikorian's squad improved to 18-2 on the season with the explosive offensive outburst. Trailing 9-8 early in the first half, CNU used a 16-2 run to jump ahead of the Pacers and never looked back. The Captains led at the half, 41-26, and maintained a double digit advantage through the second stanza en route to the 22-point triumph.
"Overall I think our energy and effort were really strong...we did a pretty good job defending and I give William Peace a lot of credit, they made some incredible shots," Krikorian said following the victory. "Coming off the trip to California, we certainly didn't take this game lightly and knew we would be challenged. Our guys stepped up and got the job done."
Peterson made 11 of 12 shots and also dished out four assists to add to his remarkable night. Barber posted nine rebounds and was 8 of 9 from the field while recording five assists. Aigner's 20-point effort moved him into 13th place on CNU's all-time scoring list, passing Ted Berry. He is now just six points behind Matt Bryant for the 12th spot on the list.
The victory saw the visiting Captains shoot 57 percent from the field (37 of 65), and out-rebound the Pacers, 40-25. CNU has out-rebounded its opponent in all 18 victories this season. William Peace suffered its fifth straight loss, and the Pacers are now 5-10 on the year. WPU was led by 16 points from Rashod Rouse and 13 from Donolly Tyrell, Jr. The Pacers shot just 35 percent in the opening half, but improved to 59 percent after halftime to finsih at 47 percent for the night.
The Captains, who haven't lost since November 21st, completed a 7-0 month of January. Christopher Newport now has a week to prepare for its next game, at Salisbury University next Wednesday, February 2, at the Maggs Center in Salisbury, Md. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
"February is a key month in basketball," Krikorian continued. "We're in a good place heading into some very important games and we still have a long way to go."
