NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University men's basketball squad puts its 14-game winning streak on the line Wednesday night, as the eighth-ranked Captains travel to Raleigh, N.C., to take on William Peace University. Tipoff at Hermann Athletic Center is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Captains, 17-2, returned Sunday from a trip to California, where they won two games over the University of California-Santa Cruz on Friday and Saturday nights. John Krikorian's squad raced to an 85-62 triumph in the first game, and then held off the Banana Slugs in the second, 66-56.

Sophomore Trey Barber led the Captains in the two victories by posting double figures in scoring and rebounding in both games. He has now recorded five double-doubles this season, and three in a row. For his efforts, Barber was chosen the Player of the Week in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Monday for the second time this season. In addition to his scoring and rebounding, Barber has also continued his prolific shot-blocking. The Captains continue to lead the nation in blocks, averaging 6.8 per game. Barber is fifth in the country in the category, rejecting 3.4 shots per contest.

The Pacers of WPU enter play with a 5-9 mark and have lost their last four. The game will be just the second all-time meeting of the programs, and the first in Raleigh. CNU defeated William Peace, 83-60, at the Freeman Center on December 4, 2019, in the only previous matchup.

Wednesday's game will be the 20th of the season for the Captains, and the final contest in the month of January. CNU has not lost since November 21st at Lynchburg.

All Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 6:40 p.m. The game can also be heard live by clicking HERE.
