Ninth-Ranked Captains Host College of New Jersey in MLK Monday Matinee

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport plays host to the College of New Jersey Monday afternoon at the Freeman Center. Tipoff time is set for 3:00 p.m. The Captains, 14-2 on the season, are ranked ninth in the nation and are riding an 11-game winning streak.

Monday's contest, which was added to the schedule this week as a replacement game, will have free admittance and open seating for all fans at the Freeman Center. Spectators are reminded to wear masks at all times while in the Freeman Center, where the Captains are 10-0 this season.

"We're very fortunate and grateful that we were able to schedule this game with TCNJ," Head Coach John Krikorian said. "They were looking to fill a couple of holes on their schedule thanks to CoVID, and we've lost games at York and Catholic, so it just worked out. Our guys obviously want to play as much as we can, and I think it's going to be a good test for us."

Sophomore Jahn Hines led the way with 23 points, six rebounds, and three assists for CNU, and was honored by being named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Fifth-year senior Jason Aigner, who tallied 18 points on six three-pointers at Marymount, enters play on Monday just two points shy of Mike Green for 15th on CNU's all-time scoring list.

The matchup with the Lions will be the first ever of the two programs. TCNJ is located in Ewing, N.J., and is a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Lions are 6-5 this year, and coming off a 70-63 conference victory on Saturday at home over William Paterson University.

Monday's game, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, will be the last for the Captains before the squad travels to California for two games next weekend. CNU will play the Banana Slugs of Cal-Santa Cruz on Friday and Saturday nights, January 21 and 22, with starting time set for 10:00 p.m. (ET) both nights at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

All Captains men's games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM). The pre-game show on Monday will begin at 2:40 p.m.
