Last Time Out

CNU is coming off a busy, but successful weekend hosting the Captains Classic at the Freeman Center. The Captains went 3-1 on the weekend, with wins over Cabrini, Susquehanna, and Clarkson. Christopher Newport junior setter Sammy Carroll was named to the 2021 Captains Classic All-Tournament team. She assisted on 201 kills in the first weekend of the season, including 60 in the win over Susquehanna. With those 60 assists, Carroll set the new mark for most assists in a match in Freeman Center history and are the second most for a CNU player in the current scoring format of rally scoring to 25 points. Senior outside hitter Maddie Carter was also named to the All-Tournament team with 46 kills over the weekend. Freshman libero Noelle Starr anchored the Captains' back line as Libero in her first collegiate action. She finished the opening week of the season with 80 digs and posted a 95% reception percentage on 98 serves.

By The Numbers

53
Through the first five matches of the season, Maddie Carter has driven home 53 kills. The senior has shown significant improvement so far this season; entering 2021 with 54 career kills, Carter will likely total more kills in the first six matches of 2021 than she had in the previous two seasons combined.

Series History

CNU has won six in-a-row against the Eagles, but Bridgewater still leads the all-time series 10-9. The Captains have won six straight since their last loss to Bridgewater in 2005, including a five-set win in their last meeting back in 2018. The last time these two met in Bridgewater, CNU swept the Eagles 3-0.

Scouting the Eagles

Bridgewater opened their season hosting the Route 42 classic over the weekend. In wins over Salem, Eastern Mennonite, and Marymount, the Eagles dropped just one set. It's been a balanced attack so far for Bridgewater, with three players registering over 20 kills so far. Senior outside hitter Hope Jennings has led the way so far with 27 kills.
