Captains to Host Randolph-Macon on Thursday Night

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Riding a 10-game winning streak, the Christopher Newport Captains are as hot as they come entering Thursday night's match. They'll host Randolph-Macon in the third and final game of the Captains' three game homestand that started on September 24th.

Match Details

The Captains and Yellow Jackets will square off at 7:00pm on Thursday. The match will be streamed live on CNU All-Access and accompanied with live stats.

Last Time Out

After dropping the first two sets, Christopher Newport rallied to win the next three sets and top Mary Washington in five. Maddie Carter (18) and Kyla McIntyre (11) each finished with double-digit kills while Mackenzie Wright led the team with six blocks. The Captains also put up points with their serves totaling 12 aces in the match. Noelle Starr led the team with three aces  and was perfect in serve receive. The freshman hasn't committed a reception error in nine matches this season, including the last two. The win is CNU's 10th in row, a streak that's one of the longest in the country.

By The Numbers

 10
The Captains are now one of 18 teams in the country with a double-digit winning streak. It's CNU's longest winning streak since 2019, when they won 14 in a row. In the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, only UC Santa Cruz has won more games in a row with 12. Additionally, Christopher Newport currently holds the longest winning streak in the Commonwealth.

Series History

The Captains and Yellow Jackets will come together for their 27th meeting on Thursday. CNU leads the overall series 18-8, but RMC won the last meeting in 2015. The Yellow Jackets haven't visited the Freeman Center since 2014 when CNU won 3-1.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets

Randolph-Macon holds a 6-4 record headed into Wednesday night. Since they'll play a match at Bridgewater ahead of Thursday night's contest, RMC will bring either a three-match winning streak or a very recent loss to Newport News. The Yellow Jackets' attack runs through senior Sydney Koch who leads the team in points (116), kills (97), and hitting percentage (.361). Koch also ranks second in blocks on a team averaging the 21st-most blocks per set (2.03) in the nation.
