NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport Captains will look to keep with their winning ways on Wednesday night as they return to the Freeman Center to host Virginia State. The Captains are riding a four-game winning streak and boast both of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference players of the week.Â

The Captains and Trojans are set to do battle at 6:00pm in the Freeman Center. The match will be streamed live on CNU All-Access.
Last Time Out
CNU has plenty of momentum following a perfect week that saw them go 4-0 and dropping just two sets over those four matches. Sammy Carroll and Noelle Starr led the way for the Captains as they were named Coast-to-Coast players of the week. Carroll was named the C2C offensive player of the week after averaging over 11 assists per set. She currently sits atop the conference in assists with 11.09 per set. Meanwhile, Starr took home defensive player of the week honors after not committing a reception error in three straight matches last week. The freshman also ranks second in the conference with 4.67 digs per set.

The Captains are currently averaging 2.7 service aces per set so far this season, the second-highest average in the C2C conference so far behind Pratt (3.07), who has played just four matches.

Series History
CNU has only faced Virginia State once in program history. The Captains won the only meeting in 1997.
Scouting the Trojans
Virginia State is 2-3 this year after splitting two home matches over the weekend. VSU lost in three sets to Felican before winning 3-0 over Alderson Broaddus. Freshman Helena Eubanks led the Trojans with 20 kills over the weekend on her way to being named CIAA rookie of the week. Eubanks has led the team for most of the season, registering a team-leading 42 kills so far.
