NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Riding an 11-match unbeaten streak, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team moved up in the United Soccer Coaches Division III National Rankings, now ranked No. 16. The Captains (2-0-2) moved up from No. 22 in the preseason poll and earned the program's highest national ranking since the 2016 season.
Under the direction of head coach
Justin Chezem, the Captains have gone 16-2-7 including a 2-0-2 start to the 2021 season. Christopher Newport has picked up wins over Covenant and Methodist while earning draws with Gettysburg and Lynchburg. Lynchburg is now receiving votes in the national rankings following the 1-1 tie with the Captains.
CNU is next scheduled to travel to face No. 15 Chicago and North Park University this weekend. The two games kick off a run of four straight matches away from home before the Captains return to Newport News for an October 2 matchup.
