Christopher Newport punched its ticket to the Quarterfinals after upending Stevenson, 10-5, in a defensive masterpiece on Sunday in Owings Mills, Maryland. During the contest, Max Wayne forced a season-high four turnovers, while Ryan Young and Aidan Wheeler had three apiece. Meanwhile, between the pipes, Zac Hanway posted his eighth double-digit save effort of the year after notching 12 total stops against the Mustangs.

On the offensive side, the Captains erupted after halftime as the squad flipped a one-goal deficit into a healthy five-goal victory. Alex Brendes led the squad with six points, including his sixth hat-trick of the season. Dylan Rice also netted three goals during the game, and Coby Auslander handed out four assists. Additionally, Zack Sands controlled possession and won 13 of his 19 faceoff attempts.

Entering the weekend, Rice has a team-high 42 goals, which ranks fifth on the program's all-time charts. Brady Altobello also sits eighth in school history with 38 strikes this year. Meanwhile, Sands' 87 ground balls place him fourth on the single-season charts, while Young and Phoenix Hines are tied for sixth in program history with 29 takeaways apiece.

Lynchburg enters Saturday on a 12-game winning streak, including a 14-8 triumph over Stevens in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. During that contest, Trammel Robinson deposited four goals against the Ducks, while Brett Rogers had five points. Quintin Ricci also won 15 of his 26 faceoffs, and Patrick Moore nabbed 14 saves.

The Hornets currently rank first in the NCAA in assists (197) and ground balls (901), while the squad's .909 clearing percentage is the fifth-best in the country. On an individual level, Moore is 12th in the nation with a 7.29 goals-against-average, and Kyle Lewis is in the top-30 in assists-per-game with a 2.60 rate.

Saturday's bout will mark the third match-up between Lynchburg and Christopher Newport this season. The Captains won the first game, 10-9, in overtime as Altobello finished with six points before Brendes landed the clincher in the 61st minute. Six days later, the Hornets posted a 12-5 win on their home turf as five players had multi-goal efforts, including a five-point eruption by Nate Shafer.

The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the NCAA Semifinals on Sunday at 2 p.m. for a showdown with the survivor of the other Quarterfinal match-up between Salisbury and Illinois Wesleyan.
