NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - It's been more than 16 months since the Christopher Newport University football squad hit the playing field for competition. The Captains end the long hiatus Sunday, traveling to Maryland to play Salisbury University. Kickoff for the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) battle is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
No visiting fans will be allowed on the Salisbury campus for the game. Video coverage of the game can be accessed

The Captains are one of six NJAC schools taking part in a three-game shortened spring season. CNU's first scheduled game last Saturday at William Paterson University was postponed due to CoVID protocols. Salisbury is 1-0 after holding off Wesley last weekend, 32-30. The Sea Gulls are the defending NJAC champs from the 2019 season.
Christopher Newport, Salisbury, and Wesley make up the South Division, while Kean, William Paterson, and Montclair State comprise the North Division for the short season of the NJAC.
Art Link's team last played on November 16, 2019, losing at Wesley College, 42-7, to end the 2019 campaign with a 2-8 record. The Captains will be playing Salisbury for the 19th time, with the Sea Gulls holding a 13-5 advantage in the all-time series. Salisbury defeated Christopher Newport, 51-0, in the last meeting on November 2, 2019. The series dates back to the very first Christopher Newport football game on September 1, 2001, when the Captains hosted the Sea Gulls in a 21-6 loss.
The Captains are scheduled to host Wesley next Sunday, March 28, at TowneBank Stadium in a 4:00 p.m. start. Click
