NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport traveled to Buena Vista, Va., Friday night for the first of a home-and-home weekend exhibition series with the Knights of Southern Virginia. The Captains posted an 82-67 victory at Knight Arena.
John Krikorian's squad trailed 2-0 to start the contest and never fell behind again, building the lead to as many as 22 in the opening half. The Knights battled back to cut the lead to a dozen at halftime, 44-32, but could get no closer than 11 in the second stanza.
The Captains placed 12 players in the scoring column led by sophomore
Ian Anderson, who registered a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. Freshman
Landon Hawes posted 12 points and seven boards, and junior
Tyler Trimble scored ten in the 15-point victory. Christopher Newport out-rebounded SVU, 46-37, and forced 20 turnovers by the Knights. Of the 13 players that saw action for the Captains, no one played more than 26 minutes.

The teams will meet for another exhibition game on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center. As part of the continued effort by Christopher Newport University to provide a safe environment for intercollegiate athletic competition, no spectators will be allowed throughout the 2020-21 season.
