Captains Shootout and 2021 Conclude Friday as Christopher Newport Hosts Southern Virginia

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University puts its eight-game winning streak on the line Friday afternoon, as the 12th-ranked Captains host the Knights of Southern Virginia University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center for the final game of the Hampton Inn & Suites/Captains Shootout, as well as the final game of the calendar year.

The Captains are 11-2 and 8-0 at the Freeman Center this season, and coming off an 87-60 triumph Wednesday over Shenandoah University on the first day of the tournament. Friday's game will be the second of five in an 11-day span for the Captains, who haven't lost since November 21st at Lynchburg.

Southern Virginia is 6-5 following a victory over Shenandoah on Thursday afternoon, 82-70. The Knights drained 12 three-pointers in the first half and finished with 14 for the game as they dropped the Hornets to 2-9 for the season. SVU shot 54 percent from the field for the day (27 of 50) and made 14 of 28 from beyond the arc.

The Captains and Knights, former league members of the Capital Athletic Conference, will be meeting for the 23rd time. CNU has won 21 of the previous 22 contests, including the last 11 games in the series. The schools last battled on February 19, 2020, when John Krikorian's squad registered an 84-66 triumph in Buena Vista, Va. 

Tickets for the final game of the Hampton Inn & Suites/Captains Shootout will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to tip off Friday afternoon.
