The Captains are 10-2 so far this season, and ranked 12th in the country in the nationwide poll from D3hoops.com. Christopher Newport has won seven straight games, most recently defeating Washington and Lee, 103-91, on December 20th in Washington in the DC Showcase. The Captains are 7-0 at home this year, and have been led by fifth-year senior Jason Aigner, who is averaging 13.5 points per game. Sophomore Jahn Hines is scoring 12.8 points and pulling down a team-high 8.0 rebounds per contest. Sophomore Trey Barber is also averaging in double figures in the scoring column, posting 10.8 points per outing and tops the squad in blocked shots with 45 (3.8 per game).

The Captains Shootout, originally scheduled for just two days, will now stretch until Friday, allowing all three schools participating the chance to play two games. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy pulled out of the tourney due to CoVID concerns.  The Shootout will continue at the Freeman Center as Shenandoah will take on Southern Virginia University on Thursday at 2:00 p.m., and then Christopher Newport will play Southern Virginia Friday afternoon at the Freeman Center, with game time also set for 2:00 p.m.

Shenandoah is 2-7 heading into Wednesday's matinee, and the Hornets have dropped their last two games. CNU and SU are former members of the Dixie/USA South Athletic Conference and have met 61 times on the hardwood in the past, dating back to their first encounter in January of 1971. The Captains hold a 48-13 lead in the all-time series, and have won the last ten matchups. Christopher Newport and Southern Virginia are also former league-mates, and the Captains have won 21 of 22 games in the series, including the last 11, with the Knights. SVU is 5-5 heading into its game vs. Shenandoah on Thursday.

Aigner, who scored 17 points and knocked down five of eight from long distance for the Captains in their last game against W & L, moved ahead of Carlos Heard into 19th place on the school's all-time scoring list. Aigner was selected the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week last week and is now just one point behind Bobby Arnette for 18th place on the scoring list.

Tickets for all three games of the Hampton Inn & Suites/Captains Shootout will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to tip off each day.

All Captains games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning Wednesday and Friday at 1:40 p.m. Live video of the games will also be available by clicking HERE. You can also follow the action of the Shootout with live stats by clicking HERE.
