Natalie Terwilliger Named C2C Athletic Conference Player of the Week; No. 20 Captains Host Bridgewater Tuesday Night

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For the fourth time in her career, Christopher Newport senior forward Natalie Terwilliger was selected as the Conference Player of the Week as she picked up her first designation of the season Monday in a release by the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference. The Captains opened the year with a convincing 88-51 win on Saturday, led by Terwilliger's 16 points, and will take on Bridgewater College on Tuesday night in game two.

The Captains (1-0), ranked No. 20 in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25, will return to the hardwood on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. Bridgewater (0-1) comes into the Freeman Center for the first time since the 2017-18 season as the teams match up for the 25th time. Christopher Newport has won five straight against the Eagles and trails the all-time series, 11-13.

Terwilliger led the way in the Captains' season-opening win against Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon, knocking down seven of her ten shots including a pair of three-pointers for 16 total points. She also grabbed seven rebounds while swatting one shot and helping CNU snag 27 steals with a pair.

The senior forward from Alexandria, Va. kicked off her senior year with her fifth double-digit scoring performance in her last seven games. In that stretch, Terwilliger has posted three games of 70% shooting from the field or better and three contests with multiple three-pointers. It was the fifth time in her career she has knocked down at least 70% of her shots. Perhaps most impressively, Terwilliger managed the stellar outing in just 18 minutes on the floor as Christopher Newport pulled away from the Knights early.

Joining the reigning Conference Player of the Week in double figures were fellow seniors Phylicia McInnis (13 pts) and Sondra Fan (12 pts). The trio combined for seven of the Captains' eight three-pointers in the opening game and combined to shoot over 50% from long range (7-13).

Bridgewater will counter with sophomore forward Jaden Alsberry, who scored a team-high 17 points in a game-one loss to Mary Baldwin College. The Eagles also got double figures from senior Erika Nettles (14 pts) and sophomore Julia Williams (10 pts). Bridgewater hauled in an impressive 56 rebounds in the game, including 22 offensive boards.

Live stats and live video will be available for the matchup at CNUsports.com. Following Tuesday's outing, the Captains will hit the road for four straight, starting at the Renie Amoss Tip-Off Classic hosted by Goucher College on November 12-13.
