Christopher Newport Volleyball Set for Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament

The Christopher Newport Captains will begin their quest to capture the 17th conference title in program history on Friday in a semifinal matchup with the winner of Mary Washington and Mount Mary.

Match Details

The No. 2 seeded Captains will take on the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 3 Mary Washington and No. 6 Mount Mary. The match will be streamed on YouTube and live stats will also be available.

Last Time Out

Christopher Newport took two of three matches in last weekend's CNU Invitational. Sammy Carroll finished the Virginia Wesleyan match with 60 assists, a career-high for her and is tied for 6th most in CNU history. That helped the Captains drive home 68 kills in the win, the most kills in a four-set match this season and tied for the most in any match this season. The attack didn't stop as CNU went on to tally 62 kills, the third-highest total of the season, in a five-set win over Marymount.

Three Captains were honored Thursday morning as members of the All-Coast-to-Coast Conference teams. Sammy Carroll made the first team for the second time in two years after she led the conference in assists and was the only player in the C2C to average double-digit assists per set. Maddie Carter was also named to the first team with her conference-leading 349 kills and average of 3.26 kills per set. Finally, Mackenzie Wright was named to the All-C2C second team after finishing the season with 80 blocks, the third-highest total in the conference

Tournament History

The Captains have taken home conference titles in each of the last three seasons. In 2017, 2018, and 2019, Christopher Newport has topped Mary Washington in the conference finals to clinch an NCAA berth.
