Christopher Newport Game Notes  ||  Live Stats  ||  Live Video

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The nationally-ranked and undefeated Christopher Newport women's basketball team will return to action after the Thanksgiving holiday with a home matchup against Franklin & Marshall College (3-2) on Sunday afternoon with tip scheduled for 2:00 pm. The 7th-ranked Captains (6-0) will play the Diplomats between a pair of men's games at the Freeman Center.

The triple-header action at home will include a neutral site matchup between New Jersey City University and Alvernia University at Noon, followed by the women's matchup at 2:00 pm. After that, the CNU men's squad will take on No. 1 Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 pm.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available for all the action, including the Captains' third home game of the season. With only eight home dates on the 2021-22 regular season slate, Christopher Newport will be halfway home after a Wednesday night matchup against William Peace at 6:00 pm on December 1. Tickets are available for purchase at the Freeman Center box office or by calling 757-594-7880 between 9am-4pm Monday through Friday.

The Captains will enter Sunday's matchup riding the second longest win streak in program history with 23 straight wins dating back to the 2019-20 campaign. Nine CNU players are averaging 7.0 points per game or more as the well-balanced Captains are scoring at an historic pace, averaging 94.8 points per game. Sondra Fan leads the team with 12.8 points per game while Anaya Simmons (12.2 ppg) and Natalie Terwilliger (10.4 ppg) are also averaging double figures so far this season.

As usual, the Captains Chaos defense is tormenting opponents through the first six games of the year by ranking second nationally in steals per game and turnovers forced. CNU is outscoring opponents by an average of 43.2 points per game and have held opponents to 60 points or less in five of six games this season.

Looking to take down Christopher Newport will be Franklin & Marshall as the two teams matchup for the first time since 1994. The all-time series is split, 1-1, with each team winning a home game well over two decades ago. This year, the Diplomats are playing well under interim head coach Brianna Spector, off to a 3-2 start including a 1-1 mark in Centennial Conference action.

Senior forward Kenna Williams leads the team averaging 10.4 points and 11.8 rebounds per game and has also dished out over two assists per contest. F&M is averaging just 59.4 points per game but the team defense has done a solid job limiting opponents to just 48.8 points per game so far this season.

Following Sunday's matinee, the Captains will return to the Freeman Center for a Wednesday night battle against William Peace University at 6:00 pm.
