NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University hits the hardwood for the fifth time this season on Sunday, traveling to play the Hornets of the University of Lynchburg. Tipoff time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Turner Gymnasium on the Lynchburg campus.
The Captains are 3-1 so far this season, and coming off a split last weekend in a two-day tournament at Roanoke College. Lynchburg is 1-1 on the season, and the Hornets dropped a 68-65 decision on Friday night at Mary Washington in their last game played.

John Krikorian's squad scored 83 points in both games last weekend, falling short in an 86-83 loss to third-ranked Marietta on Friday in the opening round of the tourney. CNU shook off a slow start in the third-place game on Saturday and came from behind to record an 83-72 victory over Eastern University. Sophomore
Trey Barber was named to the All-Tournament squad and was also chosen the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week following the two games in Roanoke. Barber, from Woodbridge, Va., averaged 19 points, seven rebounds, and 4.5 blocked shots per game as the Captains improved to 3-1 on the season.  The transfer from Mary Washington posted ten points, eight rebounds and three blocks vs. Marietta and then recorded 28 points, six rebounds, and six blocks in the victory over Eastern.
Sunday's game at Lynchburg will be the 23rd meeting all-time of the schools, with the Hornets holding a 13-9 edge in the series.Â
