Volleyball Travels to Mary Washington on Saturday

The Christopher Newport Captains pay a visit to fellow Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference member Mary Washington on Saturday. It's the second time this season the Captains match up with the Eagles after CNU won at home over Mary Washington 3-2 on September 28th.

Match Details

The Captains were set for a Saturday doubleheader, with a match against Randolph following the one against Mary Washington. Randolph has since canceled the match, so CNU will just play one match on Saturday. They'll take on the Eagles at noon with the match being streamed live on UMW's website.

Last Time Out

Christopher Newport Volleyball held St. Mary's to just 31 points on Wednesday night as they took down the Seahawks, 3-1. 31 points is the second-lowest total allowed by CNU this season as they held St. Mary's to a .000 hitting percentage. Hanna Nelson led the team with 10 kills and five blocks in the win with Mackenzie Wright and Maddie Carter contributing nine kills each to the Captains' effort. Anna Dean also assisted in the win with seven service aces.

By The Numbers

213
CNU has been spectacular in their serves this season with 213 aces so far this season. That's the second-most in the country and Anna Dean is a big reason why that total is so high. Dean has served 60 aces this season, the most in the country, while her teammates Noelle Starr (38), Sammy Carroll (33), and Rebecca Frey (32) are all in the national top 100 with more than 30.

Series History

The Captains and Eagles will meet for the 41st time on Saturday. CNU has won five straight, including a five set victory last week. Trailing 2-0, Christopher Newport pulled off a spectacular comeback by winning the next three sets in-a-row.

Scouting the Eagles

Mary Washington has been on a bit of a skid, losing five of their last six matches, including the one against Christopher Newport. Krista Rodgers has been a bright spot for the Eagles amid the rough stretch. The sophomore leads the team in blocks (68) and hitting percentage (.334). Rodgers' 68 blocks also makes her the C2C leader in the category.
