Christopher Newport Football Looks to Bounce Back in Saturday Matinee at William Paterson

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University football looks again for its first New Jersey Athletic Conference victory of the season on Saturday, as the Captains travel to Wayne, N.J., to take on the Pioneers of William Paterson University. The battle in the Garden State begins at 1:00 p.m. at Wightman Stadium on the WPU campus.

CNU opened league play last week, dropping a 27-20 overtime decision to Kean University at Kelchner Field at TowneBank Stadium. Art Link's squad is now 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC. William Paterson is also 2-3 so far and 0-1 in conference play after dropping a 15-14 decision last Saturday to the College of New Jersey.

"We've worked hard this week in practice after the disappointing loss last week," Link said. "The NJAC is a strong conference top to bottom and you've got a battle every week. William Paterson is a much improved team and we're going to have to play well on Saturday."

Christopher Newport has won all five previous meetings with William Paterson, most recently a 34-10 Captains triumph at TowneBank Stadium on October 12, 2019. CNU has won both games at Wightman Stadium in 2016 (26-7) and 2018 (39-10).

Saturday's 1:00 p.m. tilt will be a part of Homecoming Weekend activities at William Paterson. The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 12:30 p.m. You can listen to the Captains Radio Broadcast by clicking HERE.
