NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University football team, coming off a 28-0 victory over Montclair State last week, heads to Ewing, New Jersey, Saturday afternoon to take on the Lions of the College of New Jersey. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. at Lions Stadium on the TCNJ campus.
The Captains, now 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, were powered by their defense last week. The home victory over Montclair State was the first shutout registered by a CNU squad since 2017, Head Coach
Art Link's first season at the helm.
"They did a tremendous job last week, and we're going to need that kind of effort every week," Link said. "Our offense has been improving every week, and our defense has made some great strides to give us a complete effort. Now we've got a tough road battle and I know TCNJ will definitely be ready for us."
The Lions suffered their first conference loss of the season last week, falling 20-7 to Kean University. Casey Goff's team is now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC. The matchup will be the sixth all-time of the programs, and the Captains hold a 4-1 edge in the series having won the last two meetings.
