CNU Volleyball Falls to No.11 Juniata on the Road, 3-0

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The 11th-ranked Juniata Eagles (19-1) held off the Christopher Newport volleyball team in three sets on Friday night as the Captains fell on the road 25-3, 28-26, 25-19. CNU fell to 17-4 with just their second loss in the last 16 matches.

The Captains struggled through the first set as the home team captured a 25-3 win against the Captains. Macy Burk had a pair of kills and Maddie Carter added one as Juniata allowed just three points to CNU in the first set.

Bouncing back in the second, the Captains forced extra points for the win in the second set. After facing set point, 24-20, the Captains ran off five straight points to earn set point of their own. Anna Dean and Mackenzie Wright started the run with a combined block and the Captains clawed back by forcing three straight errors from the home team. Kyla McIntyre then blasted the go-ahead kill to make it 25-24, but the Eagles responded. Two straight points for the Eagles were followed by another kill by McIntyre, but Juniata pulled out a 28-26 win with a kill by MAckenzie Coley and a service ace by McKenna Walker.

The third set saw CNU fall behind by as many as six points, 11-5, before staging a comeback to within two points, 16-14, after another McIntyre kill. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Captains would get in the final set. The Eagles closed out the 25-19 set to clinch the match at home.

Maddie Carter led the Captains with eight kills while McIntyre added six on 16 swings for a team-best .188 percentage. Mackenzie Wright had five blocks and five kills while Noelle Starr led the team with 11 digs.

Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday as they face the Ithaca Bombers at 11:00 am at the Juniata Tri-Match.
