NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the fourth consecutive season the Christopher Newport women's basketball team will play for the Capital Athletic Conference Championship as they host #3-seeded York College of Pennsylvania (17-10) on Saturday, February 29 at approximately 4:30 p.m. The 22nd-ranked Captains (22-4) will tip off in the second game of a conference championship doubleheader against the Spartans after the men's teams take the floor at 2:00 p.m.

Saturday's title bout is a rematch of the 2014 CAC championship when the Captains faced the Spartans for the first time in the postseason. This year, the Captains will be participating in their fourth straight CAC Championship Game against a fourth different team (Mary Washington, Marymount, Southern Virginia). York is competing in their first since the 2013-14 season when they defeated Christopher Newport at home. Both teams are looking for their third conference championship all-time.

Christopher Newport won both regular season matchups against York (Pa.) this season by scores of 64-50 at home and 68-49 at York. Those wins saw the Captains take a 14-7 edge in the all-time series and CNU has won four of the last five games. Entering Saturday's game, Christopher Newport has won 20 straight home games, the third longest streak in program history, and has won 14 straight overall this year.

Getting to the championship through #4 Salisbury in a hard-fought 76-63 win on Wednesday night, the Captains improved to 22-4 overall. The Spartans have won three in a row including tournament victories against St. Mary's (Md.), 79-58, and at Mary Washington, 64-51. York and Christopher Newport have faced eachother four times in the CAC Tournament with an even 2-2 split in those matchups.

York features three All-Conference players in first team selection Kayla Ferris and a pair of second team picks in Molly Day and Haley Luckabaugh. Ferris ranks in the top-25 in assist/turnover ratio with a league-leading 2.0 mark. She tops the team in assists, steals, and blocked shots while also scoring 10.3 points per game. She is one of four Spartans averaging double figures this season led by junior Molly Day with 12.1 points per game.

On the Christopher Newport side of the court, sophomore Sondra Fan, a first team All-Conference selection, leads the way for the Captains. She is the team's leading scorer with 13.1 points per game while also dishing a team-high 60 assists with a team-best 55 steals. Classmate Natalie Terwilliger is also averaging 11.0 points per game while leading the team in rebounding at 6.2 per game. Freshman Anaya Simmons, the CAC Rookie of the Year, is pouring in 10.1 points per game while shooting an impressive 55.5% from the field.

For fans who are unable to attend the game in person, live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com.

The winning team will earn the CAC's automatic berth into the 2020 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The NCAA Selection Show will be broadcast live on NCAA.com Monday March 2 at 2:30 pm.
