Fourth-Ranked Captains Play to 1-1 Draw at Home Against Dickinson College

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- With a diving save in double overtime, the outstretched hands of Haley Eiser preserved the fourth-ranked Captains unbeaten streak to start the season, extending to five games with a 1-1 draw against Dickinson College in the 2019 Captains Invite. Christopher Newport is now 4-0-1 on the season while the Red Devils are now 2-0-2.

While the Captains put their share of quality chances on target late in the game looking for the game-winning goal, it was a Dickinson opportunity early in double overtime that highlighted the evening. On a Dickinson corner kick in the 104th minute, Kyra Thomas angled a header that looked destined for the left corner of the goal, but Eiser came soaring through the air to make a diving save to turn away the chance. It would be the last attempt of the game for Dickinson, as Eiser locked up the draw with six saves.

Earlier in the contest, Eiser picked up a sensational one-on-one save for the second consecutive night. A late chance by the Red Devils found Ally Diez loose behind the Captains defense and a hard shot from point blank range was stoned by Eiser with a stellar kick save. She made five saves in the first half and was not challenged again until the close call in the second period of extra time.

Christopher Newport did allow a goal for the first time this season, but got a quick equalizer from rookie Molly Beegle to knot the contest at one goal apiece. First, under two minutes into the second stanza, Sarah Williams converted for Dickinson on a header into the back post off a cross from the right side by Elizabeth Krause. Minutes later, a nearly identical goal was scored on the other end of the field when Emily Talotta served a ball into the middle of the box for Beegle, who pounded home the game-tying goal in the 55th minute. Beegle became the eighth different Captain to score a goal through the first five games this season.

The Captains offense was relentless nearing the end of regulation, taking six shots in the final 12 minutes of the second half. Carson Pokorny nearly won the match for the Captains with a short shot in the box, but the Red Devils defense was able to clear her shot off the line for a team save.

Talotta led the Christopher Newport attack with six total shots, putting three on-goal, as the Captains outshot Dickinson by a final tally of 28-12. Nine of the ten field starters took at least one shot in the game, while reserves Ryanne Davidson and Jessica Zimmermann each took three shots off the bench.

Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday, September 14 as they host Methodist University at 2:00 pm. Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com
