Christopher Newport is coming off of a 13-4 setback at No. 5 York (Pa.) on Saturday. During that contest,
Lucas Barry posted a pair of goals, marking the 17th straight game in which he has found the back of the net. That equals the second-longest streak in program history. Meanwhile,
Will Stockhausen registered a point in his 18th straight outing, while
Miles Collins added an assist in his third consecutive appearance.
On the defensive side,
Scott McAneney made 13 saves against the Spartans. With that performance, he now sits six stops shy of becoming the third goalie in CNU history to reach 300 career saves. Meanwhile,
Drew Cornell is one caused turnover away from tying Brandon Moloney for second on the program's career list with 85.
With CNU's seven caused turnovers against York, the Captains established a new single-season program record with 217 forced miscues this year. Overall, the squad is averaging 18.08 per game, which leads the NCAA. On an individual level,
Max Wayne has a conference-high 44 caused turnovers, while
Phoenix Hines is second with 39.
On the other side of the field, Stevenson is on a two-game roll with victories over Hood and Albright last week. Although the Mustangs have six losses this season, their setbacks have come against No. 1 Salisbury, No. 4 Tufts, No. 5 York (Pa.), No. 8 Gettysburg, No. 9 Ursinus, and Lynchburg, who sits just outside of the top-20.
On an individual level, JT Thelen leads Stevenson with 28 points and 24 goals this year. Meanwhile, Ethan Christensen has a team-high 13 assists, while Seth Thornton has won 59 percent of his 162 faceoff attempts. On the defensive side, Marc Poust and Sam Ross have split time between the pipes while helping the Mustangs compile a .505 save percentage and an 11.11 goals-against-average.
Wednesday's game will mark the second time Stevenson and CNU have met. The two programs last battled in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2013 with the Mustangs snatching an 18-6 victory on the way to the national championship. Among Christopher Newport's ties to that game, head coach
Mikey Thompson was an assistant coach on the 2013 staff, while current assistant
Aaron Chrzaszcz started on the attack in that contest.
