NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to wrap up the regular season in style on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when CNU hosts St. Mary's (Md.) in a Capital Athletic Conference game at Captains Field.

Entering the midweek match-up, Christopher Newport boasts a 10-6 record, including a 3-2 mark in conference play. St. Mary's (Md.) sits at 9-5 and 2-1 in league action.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats will be available at CNUsports.com. The Captains will also provide a broadcast of the contest with Will Geise and Randy Foster calling all of the action. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Wednesday's game will have a major impact on the seedings for the upcoming CAC Tournament, which will begin on April 27. With a victory, the Captains would guarantee themselves a top-four seed and earn at least a home game in the first round of the playoffs. It would mark the fifth straight year that CNU opened the postseason at home.

In recent weeks, Christopher Newport has started to rewrite the record books. Drew Cornell established new career standards for caused turnovers (94) and games played (70). Meanwhile, Scott McAneney broke the program mark for saves in a single season and currently has 211 total stops this year. On the offensive end, Will Stockhausen has scored a point in 22 consecutive games dating back to last season, which stands as the longest run in school history.

Several other Captains also have history in their sights. Phoenix Hines leads the CAC with 50 caused turnovers, which places him three shy of matching Brandon Moloney's single-season record set in 2016. Dylan Rice is also one goal shy of reaching 100 for his career. He would join former standouts Matt Crist, Randy Foster, and Will Geise as the only Captains to reach that milestone.

CNU has also continued to receive important contributions from its freshman class. Brady Altobello ranks third among first-year competitors in the CAC with 39 points. Meanwhile, Alex Horgan came through with his first collegiate hat-trick on Saturday at Frostburg State, while Campbell Pozin also scored against the Bobcats and sits second among freshmen in the CAC with 21 caused turnovers.

On the other side of the field, St. Mary's (Md.) has won two of its last three outings, including a 12-10 triumph at Mary Washington on Saturday. The Seahawks have been especially effective on the road throughout the season and boast a 5-1 record in away games, including four straight victories. SMC has been equally successful at sustaining possession this season as the squad ranks third in the nation in fewest turnovers per contest (15.21) and fourth in clearing percentage (.887). Both of those marks also stand first in the CAC.

On an individual level, the Seahawks have been led by Jude Brown, who ranks third in the Capital with 30 assists. The freshman has at least one helper in nine straight games entering Wednesday, including five during a 14-11 win against Washington (Md.) on March 16. Erich Wuesthoff also has a team-high 29 goals, including four hat-tricks and 10 multi-goal efforts. Meanwhile, Michael Bucci has won 121 of his 276 faceoff attempts this year, and Ross Snodderly has a .546 save percentage and a 10.23 goals-against-average.

In 10 previous meetings between the two programs, St. Mary's (Md.) holds a 6-4 edge in the series. However, Christopher Newport has won the previous four meetings, including a 13-8 triumph in Maryland last year. During that contest, Rice and Lucas Barry both had hat-tricks for the Captains, while Snodderly made 12 saves for the Seahawks.
